america: (it's the hope for tomorrow)

[ It is with a slightly grim expression on this former Captain, ex-Avenger's face that he looks into the screen and addresses the network at large.

He isn't sure of the details; he isn't even sure if this clue he'd discovered really belongs to any of them, or if it might have belonged to the creature they'd just killed, but it feels important to share anyway.

His voice is calm, collected and confident in a way that hints this probably isn't his first rodeo. ]

My name is Steve Rogers and I, like most of you, I imagine, were stranded on this unknown spacecraft with no real idea how you got here or why. I think it's pretty safe to say we're all probably still looking for answers especially in the wake of the extraterrestrial attacks.

Anyway, I'm posting this video for a couple reasons. First, on my way back to the mess hall, I came across this.

[ He holds up a (now-folded) piece of red cloth into the screen. It looks downright destruction-proof and probably a bit stretchy. It is also very obviously torn from a greater expanse of fabric, like it'd been through something of a struggle. It, of course, belonged to one of the stranded passengers on this ship, but Steve doesn't know that. ]

I'm not sure what it is or who it belonged to. But anyone who wants to take a look at it, or better yet, might be able to provide a couple of answers can find me on deck two.

[ Steve takes a breath, pausing before he speaks again. ]

And secondly, it feels wrong not to give those we lost a proper soldier's send-off. I know it'll be difficult but they gave their lives to save the rest of us and we owe it to them to give them this much at least. Let me know what you think.

I think that's pretty much it. Feel free to find me on deck two or send me a message.

[ And with that, the video ends. ]

[ kara danvers had been the first person anderson had met on board of this ship. she'd been wearing a short skirt and a cape and anderson is reminded of the latter now, looking at that piece of cloth. ]

I think it belongs to Kara Danvers. [ a beat, before she corrects herself: ] Belonged. I haven't seen her or talked to her in days.

I didn't know her very well. [ anderson has seen death before. she's killed people, and she's lost people. it still isn't easy, but it's -- business as usual, essentially. ]

I would volunteer.

Cassandra Anderson. [ comes the prompt reply, and after the briefest hesitation, she adds. ] Sir. [ there's something about his demeanour that makes her stand at parade rest. he reminds her of chief judge, though he's of course no judge at all. ]

I'm not military. [ but the effect of his words is still immediate and precisely what he desired: a loosening of her posture, shoulders rounding as the tension leaves them. the hall of justice isn't technically military, but it might as well be. ]

I'll be at the entrance of the mess hall.

Sara Lance. [ sara's been involved in the fight with the alien; in the absence of the waverider's medical facilities, she's still favouring her left side a little and sporting a bruise on her neck. her smile is almost grim. ]

That's a good idea. The send-off. A memorial of sorts? [ since they have no means of recovering dorothy's body. lucas', they can do something with. ] Have you been able to make any sense of why some people come back from the dead and others don't?

I was afraid you'd say that. [ for a moment, her lips press together, then she shrugs and abandons that path of inquiry. she's not a science gal, either. ]

When were you thinking of holding the memorial?

No kidding. This place didn't really come with a manual. [ she's been figuring things out on the bridge, at least, but it isn't like the waverider and there's no gideon to help her out. so she wouldn't dare fly this ship, yet. ]

What is your line of business?

[ it's the obvious question, though already, sara can relate. ]

[ He doesn't know about the fabric. Credence remains silent on that, but the other mentions a sendoff, and he quietly flicks on the screen.

Hello, Steve, it's him again. ]

A funeral would be nice. I'd like to attend, if that's alright with you, sir.
